Privacy Policy

Effective September 30, 2024

Here at MealMoose (the "Site"), we understand that your privacy is of utmost importance. I started this site as a way to better care for my family and I believe you should have the same privacy protections that I would want for them. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect from you via the Site and how we use and disclose such information.

Our Use of Cookies

In addition to a tasty treat, a cookie is a file containing a string of letters and numbers that is stored by the web browser. The identifier is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server. Cookies may be either "persistent" cookies or "session" cookies: a persistent cookie will be stored by a web browser and will remain valid until its set expiry date, unless deleted by the user before the expiry date; a session cookie, on the other hand, will expire at the end of the user session, when the web browser is closed. Our cookies do not contain any information that personally identifies a user, but personal information that we store about you (such as your email address) may be linked to the information stored in and obtained from cookies.

We use cookies for the following purposes:

(a) authentication - we use cookies to identify you so we can show the right data; such as your recipes, your friends, and so on.

(b) status - we use cookies to help us to determine if you are logged into our website;

(c) personalization - we use cookies to store information about your preferences and to personalize the website for you;

(d) security - we use cookies as an element of the security measures used to protect user accounts, including preventing fraudulent use of login credentials, and to protect our website and services generally;

Most browsers allow you to refuse to accept cookies and to delete cookies. The methods for doing so vary from browser to browser, and from version to version. You can however obtain up-to-date information about blocking and deleting cookies via these links:

Food-Based Advertising

Advertising

This Site will eventually utilize some kind of food-related advertising and this section will be updated. We don't intend to use personalized ads at this time.

Email Addresses

We collect your email address during the sign up process to establish your MealMoose account. We will only use your email address for the purposes for which you provided it to us, such as meal planning notifications and the occasional newsletter. You may modify or opt out of email communications at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” button in the email. We will never sell, provide, show or otherwise distribute your email address for any reason, unless you explicitly request such a transaction.

Your email address may also be shared with the technology provider we use in connection with the purposes for which you provided it. For instance, if we use Mailchimp to deliver our email newsletters, information provided would be transferred to Mailchimp for processing in accordance to their Privacy Policy and Terms.

Registration and Account Data

As you use the Site, we collect other data that you provide voluntarily. For example, if you create a new recipe, the Site will record whatever information you submit when the recipe card is created. If you select "Sharing" on such a recipe card, your friends and family will be able to store a copy of that recipe within their own Account.

We may collect information about you through other voluntary methods, including research surveys.

We may also use your personally-identifying information for internal business purposes, such as creating a better user experience for the Site, diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions on the Site, better understanding how the Site is used, and making personalized recommendations to you.

You may delete your Account and Account data (your saved recipes, friends list, email address, etc) at any time by clicking "Remove Account" on your "Account" page. Please note that any "Shared" recipes as described above that have been copied to another account are no longer affiliated with your Account and would not be removed with this action.

You may exercise any of your rights in relation to your personal data by written notice to us addressed to mealmoose@mealmoose.com.

Children Under 13

We care deeply about protecting the privacy of children. I currently have two under the age of 13 who are the lights of my life. While the Site is set up to require direct friend and family requests via known email addresses (there is no friend-of-friend, friend suggestions or friend searches available) the world wide web is still a wild place. We will never knowingly allow anyone under 13 to provide us with any personally identifying information. Children should always get permission from their parents before sending any information about themselves (such as their names, email addresses, and phone numbers) to us or to anyone else. If you’re under 13, please do not provide us with any personally identifying information (such as your name, your email address or your phone number) without parental consent.

Third Party Links

The Site contains links to third party websites and resources, primarily other recipe sites and food blogs. These third party sites have separate and independent privacy policies and content. We therefore have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites. Nonetheless, we seek to protect the integrity of our site and welcome any feedback about these sites.

Sale of Business or Assets

In the event that the Site or substantially all of its assets is sold or disposed of as a going concern, whether by merger, sale of assets or otherwise, or in the event of an insolvency, bankruptcy or receivership, the information we have collected about you may be one of the assets sold or merged in connection with that transaction.

Changes to the Privacy Policy

We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. The most recent version of the Privacy Policy will always be posted on the Site, with the "Effective Date" posted at the top of the Policy. We may revise and update this Privacy Policy if our practices change, as technology changes, or as we add new services or change existing ones. If we make any material changes to our Privacy Policy or how we handle your personal information, or we are going to use any personal information in a manner that is materially different from that stated in our Privacy Policy at the time we collected such information, we will give you a reasonable opportunity to consent to the change. If you do not consent, your personal information will be used as agreed to under the terms of the privacy policy in effect at the time we obtained that information. By using our Site or services after the Effective Date, you are deemed to consent to our then-current privacy policy. We will use information previously obtained in accordance with the Privacy Policy in effect when the information was obtained from you.
